Now based in Kinsale, Julian Smith studied in Scotland and Wales. He works in the Raku method which originated in Japan in the sixteenth century. This technique requires the piece to be removed from the kiln while glowing red hot. It is then placed with combustibles and metal oxides to create striking, sophisticated results. Julian is now established as one of Ireland’s foremost Raku artists
