14 Jan The life of a jewellery designer… Annette Marshall

I am a designer/maker of silver jewellery living and working in the Cotswolds. My work has many different influences from nature to art. I take a lot of inspiration from my interactions with nature and the world around me. Living in the Cotswolds and having two young children has given me the opportunity to explore the British countryside, observing the flora and fauna around me. Spending a lot of leisure time in Cornwall, with my family, has allowed me insight into the natural beauty of beaches, rock pools, cliff tops, long sandy...

22 Sep a word from jewellery designer KATHLEEN HOLLAND

I have always, for as long as I can remember tinkered with "stuff". As  a child, I rummaged through old drawers to find things to put together and make more "stuff". Its little wonder that I went to Art College to study Fine Art, and Later Jewellery and Metalwork. I find it both therapeutic and so fulfilling. I work from home and have a simple but well stocked studio. Design is my first love, and learning new techniques along with problem solving is a challenge I enjoy. My typical day involves a large amount of parenting,...

30 Jul A few of my favourite things … Julia Roxburgh ceramic artist

My favourite food is Egg Florentine and for dessert, Eves Pudding with cream. I am a Synaesthesiac ( a neurological condition in which two or more of the five senses normally experienced separately are involuntarily joined) and therefore I see a lot of words as colours. Yellow is my favourite colour and Wednesday is yellow so I'm always happy when my birthday falls on a Wednesday. Julia is also yellow as are a lot of words beginning with J. It was a relief when I discovered there was a condition called...

24 Jul CREATING YOUR DREAM HOME: PART ONE

My Background I was blessed to grow up in Northern Ireland in the Sixties with parents who embraced all the wonderful freedom and creativity that era had to offer. It was a time of great change especially in the Applied Arts. My mother designed clothes and opened one of the first fashion boutiques in Northern Ireland …’ The Boutique’. My father designed furniture and later specialized in kitchen design. It was inevitable I would grow to have a passion for interior design and all that is beautiful in the home. I now live...

09 Jul Roisin Duffy… my working day

My working routine starts off with me leaving my house, and walking ten paces to my studio. Lights on, kettle on for the first of numerous coffees, iPod on, playlist selected. These are the essentials. My music varies wildly, I’m in a Spanish pop and bluegrass phase at the moment, but that’s open to change. The only constant is that there must be music – preferably at very high volume. I’ve no neighbours for miles anyway so no one complains. The kettle boils, coffee is made – which is the cue for...
